SQL Server Health Check

A focused, fixed-price assessment of one Microsoft SQL Server instance, with prioritized findings and a concise remediation plan. No open-ended hourly engagement and no surprise invoice.

$800 fixed price

A focused assessment with a defined scope

The SQL Server Health Check is designed for organizations that want a practical second opinion on the health of an existing Microsoft SQL Server environment without committing to an open-ended consulting engagement.

Red Raptor Solutions reviews the instance using well-established diagnostic tooling, including Brent Ozar’s First Responder Kit and dbatools where appropriate, combined with manual review and professional judgment. The goal is not to hand you a raw diagnostic dump. The goal is to identify what matters, explain why it matters, and give you a prioritized plan for what to address first.

The assessment is performed as a defined-scope engagement for a fixed price of $800. No configuration changes or remediation work are performed as part of the health check.

What’s included

The SQL Server Health Check includes:

  • Assessment of one Microsoft SQL Server instance
  • Review of SQL Server version, edition, build level, and key configuration settings
  • Review of backup configuration, recent backup history, and recovery-related concerns visible from the instance
  • Review of database file layout, storage utilization, growth settings, and capacity concerns
  • Review of tempdb configuration and other common instance-level configuration issues
  • Review of integrity-check and maintenance practices visible from SQL Server
  • Review of significant wait statistics, expensive queries, and other available performance indicators
  • Review of indexing observations and high-impact tuning opportunities identified by the diagnostic tools
  • Identification of configuration problems, operational risks, and obvious reliability concerns
  • A written report summarizing findings and recommendations
  • Findings prioritized so you can distinguish urgent issues from lower-priority improvements
  • A concise remediation plan describing the recommended next steps

What’s outside the fixed-price scope

To keep the engagement predictable and the price fixed, the SQL Server Health Check does not include:

  • Implementation of recommended changes
  • Emergency or outage response
  • Ongoing database administration or monitoring
  • Exhaustive query-by-query performance tuning
  • Application code review or application troubleshooting
  • Database or application redesign
  • High-availability or disaster-recovery architecture projects
  • Failover testing or backup restore testing
  • Penetration testing, formal security auditing, or compliance certification
  • Assessment of additional SQL Server instances unless separately agreed upon
  • Changes that require server restarts, application downtime, or production configuration changes

If the assessment identifies an issue that would benefit from additional work, any follow-up engagement will be discussed and priced separately before work begins.
